Snacking Chic - Maison Christian Faure(Montreal)

I recently went on a weekend trip to Montreal, and was excited with all of the food prospects awaiting me.  Montreal has a bustling and lively food scene, so I had a number of restaurants that I hoped to try on this particular trip.  Located in Old Montreal, Maison Christian Faure specializes in pastries and sweets, and was on my hit list.

It was early in the morning and I was planning to walk around and explore Old Montreal.  As such knowing that I would be enjoying coffee and sweets, my strain of choice for the day was Chocolope.

Chocolope is a sativa strain that descends from its parents Chocolate Thai and Cannalope Haze.  This is my go to strain for pairing with my weekend coffee, especially if I have lots to accomplish that day.  This particular Saturday was no different, and I felt an immediate kick in the pants and desire to be active and enjoy some fresh air.  The Chocolope buds, true to their name, have a strong sweet odour that is mixed with subtle hints of coffee and chocolate.   I enjoyed the “fresh air” and began my stroll through Old Montreal.  The scenery was lovely and had excitement coursing through my veins as I appreciated the architecture and French charm.

Upon entering the restaurant my senses were on overload with a visual and olfactory explosion.  Near the entrance there is a glass barrier, protecting the pastries from the hungry gazes of the customers.  It was just before noon and there was a small line of customers waited to be seated for brunch.  As I waited, I plotted and planned the demise of these helpless and vulnerable sweets.

I was seated at a quaint little table and really enjoyed the bustle and vibes at Maison Christian Faure.  The staff were very friendly, but also efficient as this is a busy spot on weekends.  I decided to order the Brunch on a Plank, which consisted of a beverage of choice, pastry of your choice, eggs benedict served on a choux pastry, topped with smoked salmon and Michel sauce, a piece of golden brioche that is drizzled with caramel sauce and a small serving of fruit.  Naturally, I decided to order a cappuccino and a chocolate croissant.

All I can say is WOW.  This meal was a delight.  The eggs benny was great and the chocolate croissant was delightful, but the golden caramel brioche was next level.  It melted in my mouth and was a religious experience.  This is a highly recommend and is a brunch that I will be dreaming of in years to come.  As always, Chocolope was a great pairing and took me to the clouds above.  This restaurant experience is perfectly captured in their tagline of “Snacking Chic.”
