iGaming and Professional Sports Gambling - Highbrow Life Approved

Sports……..

It’s brought me the highest of highs and the lowest of lows. Being there in person the moment that Kawhi Leonard rattled in “the Shot” or seeing Auston Matthews net 4 goals in his debut performance, these moments have led to pure exhilaration and the most primal cheering and celebrations. This is the highbrow life, being present, being with the people and living life!

The highbrow life is about living large, but with discipline, values, patience and collaboration. This is no get rich quick scheme…….. it’s about building a positive network of like minded individuals who share information, challenge each other productively, and are all working towards enriching their lives and building community.

Unlike “investing” in crypto or stocks, sports betting is about a passion for the game, the purest pursuit of competition, and of course, building a sustainable stream of income doing something that you love and enjoy. Some people can only bet for entertainment purposes and find that it ruins the experience of watching the games for them. I respect that and it can be difficult when betting against your favourite team, especially if you are a homer like me (the Leafs Cup parade is going to be LEGENDARY). I follow my rules and strict system in an attempt to maximize profit, make coin and live that highbrow life.

Where Can I Place Sports Bets?

You will need to check your local regulations and see if sports betting is legal in your local jurisdiction. I am based in the province of Ontario, in Canada, where single game sports betting became legal on April 4, 2022. We have a number of iGaming providers that operate legally in Ontario, which if you watch local TV you will be familiar with most sportsbooks as they are constantly advertising and trying to attract new customers.

In the United States they have pretty strict gambling regulations in some States, so please do a quick Google and see what your options are.

If you are overseas, there is a large selection of off-shore sports gambling sites. Before sports gambling was legal in Canada, many sports fanatics had to use off-shore books or even local bookies if they wanted to get in on the ACTION. The perks of the off-shore books is that many of them deal in crypto and non-traditional currencies, which gives them added flexibility. Please note, there are risks with betting off-shore and I am no way recommending this.

My Favourite Sportsbooks (Ontario)

You will always need accounts at multiple SportsBooks to shop around for lines, see what site has promotions and boosts, and to have flexibility. These are my personal favourites based on my first hand experience:

  1. Draft Kings Sportsbook

  2. Fan Duel Sportsbook

  3. The Score Best Sportsbook

DK always offers great lines, a large variety of events and the promotions are pretty good. FD is a close runner up, but I don’t like the FD app as much and sometimes I have issues locking in bets. FD does have a large array of events to bet on and semi decent promotions. The Score Bet is a distant 3rd, as they have very few props and sometimes the odds aren’t great.

Highbrow Gambling Rules

  1. Always track your bets. You need data and to be able to review your performance.

  2. Don’t chase. You will have bad beats and moments where your gambling premise is perfect, but there are freak injuries, rain delays and unpredictable events that can swing the momentum or change the outcome of a game. It is sports gambling after all…

  3. You are responsible for your bets, wagers and choices. Don’t get emotional, sports betting needs to be approached in a deliberate and systematic way based on your values, experience and theories.

  4. Live bets, arbitrage opportunities, weather information, sports predictive modelling are all edges that can provide insights to inform you and give you a leg up on the public and sportsbooks.

  5. If sports betting is negatively impacting your life, then please take a break and step away from gambling or seek help as required.

Bet Tracking

We are in an information and data era. If you aren’t actively tracking your bets, you are either losing money or leaving money on the table. Many sports book apps don’t want you to see your win-loss record or return on investment, as it is negative for most gamblers. Many of the books don’t even provide a way for you to review your bet history, I am looking at you the Score Bet.

I am a firm believer in using the Action app. You can sync the app up to multiple sportsbooks at once (I track DK, FD and The Score) and see your overall record, ROI and daily/weekly/monthly trends.

Additionally, once you are making a solid profit you can sign up for the premium service to see insights on the lines (where the % of money and bets are made). Please note, I am not sponsored or promoting any of the services in this blog.

Bankroll

You gotta start somewhere. Of course when you start out, your bankroll will be smaller until you establish yourself and validate your own strategies, bet size and overall success. If you are consistently picking at 52%+, then you will have a positive ROI and grow your bankroll. Do not rush this process, as it takes time, first hand experience and hard lessons to effectively grow your bankroll. With a bankroll as small as $200, you can start making bets and growing your bankroll. There will be highs and lows, wins and losses. You aren’t special or different than anyone else, you will need to experience these “growing” pains and really feel the emotions and swings of the sports betting life.

My first 2023 win at table games, my guilty pleasure! Shout Out to Pickering Casino

I will expand on the unit based betting system in future posts. The system has been used by “sharps” and professional gamblers for millennia and is another tool in disciplined betting and consistent results.

Big Bets, Big Losses, Don’t Overextend Yourself

I have had many days where I have lost thousands of dollars of my own money. It hurts and remember those moments to keep you humble and to stay disciplined in the future.

Losses are a natural part of the journey. Losses are an investment in your long-term sports betting education

Watch the Games

I highly recommend watching as many full games as possible. Actually watching the games will give you an unparalleled level of insights that really can help your bets in a positive way. No run first inning, home run parlays, anytime goalscorer, 4th quarter winning time in basketball, are all phenomenons that rel

HR Parlays, NRFIs, and Anytime Goalscorer Parlays are my faves lol.

Highbrow Life

BEWARE, I have the good fortune of living in a jurisdiction where cannabis, sports gambling and alcohol consumption are all glamourized and put on a pedestal. Always remember, these are high risk activities for a reason and sports betting is still gambling and most people lose overall.

I share my experiences to help others and provide coaching where I can.

Get HIGH, PROFIT……. now let’s eat. That’s the highbrow life……

P.S. My favourite activity is celebrating a huge win at the Casino buffet, there is nothing more satisfying than eating your profits. Shout out to the time that I threw up because of all of the Crab legs and seafood that I ate at the Caesar’s Palace all you can eat buffet, lol.
